Title: COMMERCIAL VEHICLES AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
Abstract: COMMERCIAL VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH DIESEL ENGINES HAVE ALREADY PROVED TO BE A PARTICULARLY ECONOMICAL AND RELATIVELY INNOCUOUS MODE OF TRANSPORT. ENVIRONMENTAL SAFETY, PARTICULARLY THAT RELATING TO THE QUALITY OF EXHAUST FUMES AND NOISE EMISSION LEVELS CAN BE CONSIDERABLY IMPROVED BY MEANS OF MEASURES BEING DEVELOPED AND LONG TERM MEASURES. DEVELOPMENT ENGINEERS, LEGISLATORS AND ROAD BUILDERS SHOULD SUCCEED IN RAISING ECONOMIC POTENTIAL EVEN MORE IN THIS RESPECT. IN THE AREA OF OVERLAND TRAFFIC, THE LONG DISTANCE BUS SHOULD BE ABLE TO EMPLOY THE SAME MEASURES AS THE LORRY IN ORDER TO CONFORM WITH CONSERVATIONAL REQUIREMENTS. THE CITY BUS MAY BE CONVERTED INTO AN EXHAUST FUME FREE MODE OF TRANSPORT BY MEANS OF A TRANSITION TO ELECTRIC POWER. THIS WOULD SOLVE FUTURE PROBLEMS FACING PUBLIC TRANSPORT MORE CHEAPLY AND MORE QUICKLY THAN OTHER TRAFFIC SYSTEMS.
