Title: NEW WAYS IN REGARD TO TRANSPORT SERVICES IN RURAL DISTRICTS
Abstract: The railway will play an ever smaller role in passenger transport in rural areas, with the bus becoming the predominant mode of transport there, while the collective call-a-taxi system will play an increasing role in certain thinly-populated districts. For interchange services, in addition to the railway/bus timetable harmonization, a very important aspect is the adherence to advertized connections even when late running occurs. Here the shortest interchange distance is important, and greater attention must be given to changing from the bus right at the train platform. Also the combined ticket for changing from bus to train is an important convenience for the passenger, likewise a general improvement in the service by way of cooperation between individual undertakings. But it seems that in the long run public transport in rural areas will only be feasible if the municipalities provide financial support for the transport operators.
