Title: Monsoon Fisheries of the West Coast of India Prospects, Problems and Management
Abstract: There have been significant developments
in the exploitation of the marine
fishery resources of India since early 1970s.
These, on the west coast of India, include
introduction of purse seine fishing, extension
of fishing during monsoon months,
multiple days fishing by the mechanised
vessels, motorisation of country crafts and
introduction of ring seines and similar
other efficient gears. While these inputs
have contributed to enhance the marine fish
production, they have also brought forth a
number of resource-related and socioeconomic
problems necessitating serious
management considerations.
