Title: Parking Policy in the Focus of Sustainable Transport in Cities
Abstract: Parking policy is a powerful tool that contributes to and affects the accessibility and mobility in urban areas, but in recent decades the role of parking policy has been too often neglected precisely by the politics and the politicians. However, in several recent years small but significant changes in such a negative trend have been noticed. Parking activity has finally received the attention it deserves. The consequence of the fact that parking has been ignored for a long time at the level of overall transport policy leads to the realization that many politicians and policy- makers who deal with the problem of parking in urban areas have relatively little knowledge about this issue, at the same time seeking in vain for a solution of “good parking policy” that they, precisely because of their ignorance, can hardly find. They are lacking actual (precise, accurate, timely) knowledge and information, because it is only with proper knowledge and information that a successful parking policy can solve the problems, for example, of improper stopping and parking of cars in the city centres, then the lack of parking spaces, traffic flows, public transport and similar problems encountered daily by many cities of the world and Europe.
