Title: AN ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORTATION FUEL 'THE LNG OPTION'. IN: THE TRANSPORTATION IMPACTS OF THE CLEAN AIR ACT: MOBILE SOURCE EMISSIONS AND ALTERNATIVE FUELS. ABSTRACTED PROCEEDINGS. DES MOINES, IOWA, JULY 25-26, 1991
Abstract: The emerging market for alternative fuels is being driven for the first time by the combined factors of environmental concern and the favorable economics of natural gas vs. petroleum based fuels during the 1990s. This report presents the major issues facing marketers of natural gas as a transportation fuel safety, cost and supporting technology. Current low temperature fuel systems including fuel tanks, dispensers, fueling nozzles and supporting logistics have been fully commercialized for automotive applications. An integrated marketing strategy has been implemented to ensure favorable acceptance by potential customers in both the commercial and government fleet operations sector. Economic models have been developed which verify that liquefied natural gas LNG is a cost effective, environment friendly alternative fuel from well-head production and processing to end-use. The additional factors of Federal and State tax incentives for alternative fuels are also discussed.
