Title: SYSTEMATIC APPROACH FOR SHIP MANOEUVRABILITY PREDICTION
Abstract: The authors propose and develop the TYPE SHIP (TS) concept as a method to combine experimental and numerical approach for the estimation of hull hydrodynamic properties. The TS concept is a rational way to use experimental (database) data of prototype ships for the design of a new ship. The authors point out the key components of the TS concept: existence of database data, availability of a numerical procedure for the estimation of the changes of hull forces, a method to correct the prototype ship data and a method to assess the similarity of hull forms in view of the hydrodynamic performance. They develop these methods and use them in their study. The authors evaluate the feasibility of the TS concept on 2 sets of series model tests data (MPR series and SR221 series). They conclude that the estimation of linear derivatives of hull forces using the TS concept is superior to other estimation methods available.
