Abstract: The industry's consultants have always provided planning for parking services. They can provide clients with advice on parking supply and demand, where parking should be sited, the economics of a parking expansion and so on. However, parking itself is not viewed as a planning tool by architects, institutions, or real estate developers. The article discusses how the stature of the parking industry is rising; sophistication within the industry coupled with changing economics and demographics are the catalysts for this. It is recognized that benefits can be substantial when parking is used as a planning tool instead of an afterthought.
