Title: Towards development of intelligent transport system for control of traffic management in Indian cities
Abstract: This paper demonstrates the necessity of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) infrastructure in different cities in India for traffic control management and to tackle the rising menace of road accidents and fatalities. As the number of vehicles increases every day on Indian roads, the average motorist spends hours in traffic jams, which leads to billions of rupees wasted every year. New technology, such as loop detectors, red light cameras, electronic display signs, and parking control systems are explained with various benefits. ITS maximize the capacity of infrastructure, reducing the need to build additional highway capacity. For example, applying real-time traffic data to traffic signal lights can improve traffic flow significantly, reducing stops by as much as 40 percent, reducing travel time by 25 percent, cutting fuel consumption by 10 percent, and thereby reducing carbon emissions.
