Title: Assessment of subgrade moisture content and strength conditions in the shire of Yallaroi
Abstract: Investigations were made into road subgrade conditions in the shire of Yallaroi with the objects of: (a) determining the in situ moisture content, density and strength conditions of road subgrades with and without a chemical additive. (B) providing a calibration for a dynamic cone so that subgrade conditions beneath other roads in the shire, that may require reconstruction, can be readily assessed. (C) making recommendations on aspects of road design and construction within the shire. It was concluded, with the black soil studied, that the dynamic cone could be used to assess its in situ strength. The chemical additive used did not significantly improve the strength of the black soil. Subgrade strengths were likely to be significantly lower beneath boxed as compared with unboxed construction (a).
