Title: William Caxton and early printing in England
Abstract: William Caxton and other Early Printers in takes a fresh approach to the first sixty years of printing in England by placing Caxton, his contemporaries and the later generations in the broad context of the history of book production between the middle of the fifteenth century and the Reformation. Printing and publishing in England soon developed a unique character of its own, although many of the early printers in England, Caxton included, had experience of the nascent printing industry on the Continent before moving to England. Diverse continental contacts and influences can be perceived throughout the period. Although written and amply illustrated with general readers in mind, the book also presents specialists with new research, analysis and insights.
