Electronic toll collection systems, an ITS application, have been deployed across the US and Europe with some systems operational for several years now. While the implementing agencies have been quick to publicise the operational benefits, it is less clear how the driver - the most important customer for the systems - feels about the implementations. This paper presents models for measuring driver acceptance of electronic toll collection systems, reviews sample implementations, and suggests parameters for successful projects.
