Abstract: This article looks at the benefits from derived from integrated urban stormwater control system, and how the benefits are accomplished through a combination of land use management, pollution prevention, sediment control, erosion control, and public education. The first step listed towards such an approach is to have a plan in place to control peak stormwater flows. Detention basins can be used to pool water year round in order to allow runoff to settle. Infiltration devices are also recommended. This design works by creating a trench with porous materials like sand. The sand is used to catch and slow sediment in stormwater. Vegetation can also be used for infiltration, and rain gardens are a kind of combination of the other two infiltration methods. Street sweeping is also described, as well as public education and pet animal excrement refuse ordinances.
