Abstract: This article presents the report on the 2001 car fleet survey from leading railroad trade organizations. First quarter 2001 North American rail-car deliveries were the lowest in seven years. New cars tend to carry more, so carriers don't need to buy as many. Tables provide statistics about freight cars' age, ownership and fleet makeup.
