Title: FINNISH INFORMATION SYSTEMS FOR TRANSPORT TELEMATICS (FIST) - FRAMEWORK TOWARDS TRANSPORT TELEMATICS AND USER NEEDS: COOPERATION SCHEME BETWEEN SAMPO AND PROMISE PROJECTS
Abstract: The Ministry of Transport and Communications of Finland and Nokia cooperate in the field of developing telematics applications and services within transport and information systems. The Finnish Information Systems for transport Telematics (FIST) Framework provides the development and collaboration platforms for the international and national projects in transport telematics. The traffic, public transport and tourism information services in this framework are supported by individual traffic in road environment, all public transport modes and tourism travel services. The objective of FIST is to provide frames for transport telematics projects so that the existing and future information and services would be available for all participants. This would also make it possible to develop new services by integrating information from various sources. The demonstrators in the SAMPO - System for Advanced Management of Public transport Operations - and the PROMISE - Personal Mobile Traveler and Traffic Information Service - Projects will include several high-tech telematics applications and services. The SAMPO Project will introduce Travel Dispatch Centres (TDC) with booking, reservation and optimizing for advanced management of Demand Responsive Transport Services (DRTS). The PROMISE Project will introduce Value-Added Service Providers (VASP) to provide access for general public on travel and transport related information. The technologies included are among others GSM mobile and portable terminal and other in-car equipment, GPS and Smart Card Payment System.
