Title: IMPROVING THE APPROACH TO TRANSPORT MANAGEMENT
Abstract: More basic than the decision to 'improve old or make new' is the need to specify achievable transport objectives. This is difficult within existing organizational structures but without objectives it is impossible to measure real improvement or specify real problems. Four of the transport issues derived from an Australian transport research forum survey are discussed. They include the need to manage the existing infrastructure better, funding and commonwealth state - industrial relations. Financial resources limit the potential for adding to what we have. Basic guidelines for the future include the need to determine a set of integrated social objectives and to improve the existing transport infrastructure and its organization. Our problems relate more to man's emotions than to his intelligence. (TRRL)
