Title: PUBLIC TRANSPORT BY ROAD AND RAIL IN THE NETHERLANDS
Abstract: PUBLIC TRANSPORT SERVICES IN THE NETHERLANDS CONSIST OF A LIGHT NETWORK OF RAILWAYS LINKING THE MAIN TOWNS AND OF AN EXTREMELY DENSE INTERURBAN ROAD NETWORK SUPPLEMENTING THE RAILWAY SERVICES. IN AN EFFORT TO ATTRACT PATRONAGE, THE RAILWAYS ARE INCREASING THEIR PUBLICITY AND LEVEL OF SERVICE, AND AN ATTEMPT IS MADE BY ALL PUBLIC TRANSPORT SERVICES TO STANDARDIZE THE PRESENTATION OF TIMETABLES. THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY, STOP SIGNS ARE BEING REPLACED BY UNIFORM SIGNS OF IMPROVED DESIGN. YELLOW HAS BEEN ADOPTED FOR ALL INTERURBAN BUSES, AMSTERDAM AND THE HAGUE TRAMWAYS, AND THE NEDERLANDSE SPOORWAGEN TRAINS, THUS CONTRIBUTING TO GIVING THE PUBLIC AN IDEA OF UNIFORMITY. A TICKET, VALID ON ALL URBAN NETWORKS, HAS ALSO BEEN INTRODUCED.
