Title: Viscous Forces Acting On Oscillating Roughened Cylinders
Abstract: In this paper, viscous forces acting on oscillating circular cylinders with various roughness height are investigated experimentally. The inertia and drag coefficients depend on the relative roughness height (K/D) which is the ratio of the roughness height (K) to the cylinder diameter (D), and the dependency of drag coefficient drastically changes at two different K/D values of 0.015 (or 0.025) and 0.05. The roughness height at the first turning point of the drag coefficient is almost the same value as the boundary layer thickness of a smooth cylinder which is calculated by an oscillating boundary layer theory. The lift coefficient also depends on the relative roughness height. The spectrum analyses of the lift force demonstrate that the frequency of vortex shedding is affected by the relative roughness height.
