Abstract: Preliminary reports of tests of a variety of track components' ability to carry 315,000-lb. (39-ton axle-load) cars without breaking down prematurely are discussed in this article. Among the items being tested are premium and experimental rail, new designs for specialty tracks and new crosstie designs. There are also plans to test new designs of suspension trucks for the heavier cars.
