Abstract: Abstract: This chapter provides a detailed picture of China’s bond market. It explains why China’s bond market is the most important part of China’s capital market aside from the stock market, and how it supplies SOEs and local governments with financing for economic growth. The chapter introduces the main types of bonds in China’s bond market, and explains their backgrounds and issuances as well as trading. The new developments of China’s bond market are described. Furthermore, the supervision and opening up of China’s bond market are discussed. The chapter also analyzes the risks in the current bond market, and explores how to develop China’s bond market to be a fair and efficient market. The problems of bond rating and liberating interest rates are discussed.
