Abstract: Managing fuel usage is vital for organisation of all sizes from both financial and environmental perspectives. While it would be good to be able to switch to less fuel hungry vehicles, for many business this is not possible or practical. Vehicle tracking and mobile workforce services can provide telematics and fleet management systems to work on existing vehicles, which can enable substantial savings in fuel consumption to be achieved, by providing the tools to manage and control usage in a vehicle fleet. This is done by recording the location of vehicles throughout the day with GPS technology, gaining real time information on speed, routes and fuel usage that help operators to control costs. Route planning can provide optimum route adherence; driving behaviour can be monitored to achieve best fuel economy, tyre wear, servicing requirements and safety levels. Reasons for unexpectedly high fuel consumption or excessive idling can addressed, leading to improved results.
