Title: PEOPLE, CARS, AND TRAINS - THE INTEGRATION OF TRANSPORTATION MODES IN A DOWNTOWN LIGHT RAIL TRANSIT MALL
Abstract: The Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) Authority in Dallas, Texas, USA, is planning to build a 67-mile Light Rail Transit (LRT) system to serve the Dallas urban area. The design of a 20-mile starter system which includes a 2-mile at-grade mall on an existing street through the central business district (CBD) is underway. The introduction of a light rail transit mall into the transportation infrastructure of a CBD could serve to disrupt and destroy the established system unless care is taken to assure that the proper integration of all transportation modes takes place in an orderly and efficient manner.
