Abstract: The article discusses the array of functionalities being offered by new technologies that can act as a valuable security tool within public transport. These technologies, whether they are contactless, a la carte forms of real time information or demand respondise transportation service management, they can be used to detect and localize incidents, to assess the severity of the incident, and to act as tools for aiding and assessing emergency response teams. The article provides examples from Goeteborg, Sweden; Valencia, Spain; Rome, Turin, and Bologna, Italy, and Hong Kong, China, of the use of the technologies.
