Title: WHEEL/RAIL NOISE SEPARATION WITH MICROPHONE ARRAY MEASUREMENTS
Abstract: This paper discusses the possibilities to directly validate rail and wheel contributions to the total noise radiation, using a high-performing microphone array, consisting of 84 microphones and with a diameter of4 m. The paper also shows some results regarding noise reductions achieved with damped (Syope) wheels, resulting from microphone array measurements on a high-speed train. It is concluded that with this array, it is possible to decide .whether the wheel or the rail is the important source in a certain frequency band. To separate out rail noise from wheel noise at high frequencies, greater than or equal to 1.6 kHz, the S/N-ratio must be improved by reducing the microphone spacings.
