Title: SIMULATION OF COASTAL MINEHUNTER SHIP FITTED WITH CYCLOIDAL VERTICAL AXIS PROPELLERS
Abstract: The design, development and testing of the U.S. Navy MHC-51 Coastal Minehunter propulsion machinery control system was facilitated by computer simulation. Dynamic models of the propulsion diesels, fluid couplings, and Voith Schneider propellers were developed and integrated with a three degree of freedom hull motion model, which included wind, wave, and sea current influences. Various control system algorithms were developed and integrated with the propulsion machinery and hull motion models. This paper provides a general description of the simulation models used for the control system development and system dynamic analysis and discusses the technical challenge to model the Voith Schneider propellers.
