Title: MOVING FROM SUBJECTIVE TO OBJECTIVE EVALUATION OF PAVEMENT PERFORMANCE. 1986 ANNUAL CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS VOLUME 1
Abstract: This paper describes a pavement performance evaluation scheme developed for the Ontario Ministry of Transportation and communications. The scheme forms a pavement condition index by combining mechanically-measured roughness data and data on 15 pavement distress manifestations, such as coarse aggregate loss and ravelling, rutting, and centreline cracking. The benefits of the system are as follows: 1) it increases the authoritativeness and acceptability of pavement condition rating, 2) it makes distress data available for the timely selection of pavement preservation treatments, and 3) it provides feedback data for improved pavement design and evaluation procedures.
