Title: COMPARISON OF PROPERTIES OF MASS CONCRETE CONTAINING 3- AND 6-INCH MAXIMUM SIZE, CRUSHED LIMESTONE COARSE AGGREGATE
Abstract: A SERIES OF LEAN MASS CONCRETE MIXTURES CONTAINING CRUSHED LIMESTONE AGGREGATES GRADED EITHER TO THE 3 OR 6 INCH SIZE WERE PROPORTIONED WITH THE SAME CEMENT CONTENTS AND WITH AND WITHOUT TWO POZZOLANIC ADMIXTURES. THE MIXTURES WERE PROPORTIONED IN ACCORDANCE WITH ACI STANDARD RECOMMENDED PRACTICE FOR SELECTING PROPORTIONS FOR CONCRETE /ACI 613-54/. THESE MIXTURES WERE TESTED TO DETERMINE IF THE MAXIMUM SIZE OF COARSE AGGREGATE USED IN MASS CONCRETE COULD BE REDUCED FROM 6 TO 3 IN. WITHOUT ADVERSELY AFFECTING THE QUALITY OF THE CONCRETE. WITH THE EXCEPTION OF WORKABILITY, THE TESTS MADE IN THIS PROGRAM INDICATED THAT THE CONCRETE CONTAINING 6-IN. AGGREGATE WAS SUPERIOR TO THE CONCRETE CONTAINING 3-IN. AGGREGATE. /AUTHOR/
