Title: PUBLIC TRANSPORT IN A SOUTH AFRICAN CONTEXT
Abstract: A one day session on Developing sound institutional frameworks for the development of quality public transport during the South African Transport Conference 2001 brought together technical representatives of public transit operators, local and regional authorities, and consultants from both South Africa and abroad. The discussion topics included: the role of transportation authorities as strategic planners and the interaction with land use planning; local solutions to offering attractive, affordable, safe and viable public transit services: and establishing sustainable partnerships between transportation authorities and operators.
