Abstract: Navigation system provides traffic, road, route and current position information with various multimedia functions. Therefore, if the navigation system is properly designed and utilized, it can reduce the traffic congestion, accidents, fuel consumption and increase the driver's performance, safety, satisfaction which are deeply related with the usability and objectives of ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems). However, by taking away from the driver's visual attention from the front view of driving scenes, navigation system is apt to increase the driver's visual and mental workload with collision or crash situations. This is the reason why HMI (Human-Machine Interface) between driver and navigation system is very importantly and crucially regarded in ITS. Therefore, if the proper tools are developed, time and cost could be diminished without the unsafe state of the real road experiments. This paper describes the Navi-HEGS (Navigation system Human-machine interface Evaluation and Guideline System) which consisted of four subsystems: (1) digital map UIMS; (2) navigation system simulator; (3) HMI evaluation system; and (4) HMI design guideline system.
