Abstract: This article describes the solution adopted to replace the bridge over the Guadalquivir. The essential condition required was that the project should be carried out without disturbing the traffic. Details are given of the difficulties encountered and of the measures taken to raise the piers and abutments, construction of the new bridge deck; the latter stronger than the existing one, was used for a while jointly with the old deck. Dismantling operations and load application are mentioned. The material used for constructing this bridge is corrosion-resistant and does not require outside painting. It requires, on the other hand, strict control of the material chosen and welding. Results were most satisfactory as regards speed of operations, efficiency and economy. (TRRL)
