Title: AN EVALUATION OF COMMERCIAL FINITE ELEMENT PROGRAMS FOR NONLINEAR ANALYSIS
Abstract: Nonlinear analysis capabilities currently available in commercial programs are investigated for use in mechanical and structural design. Alternative methods of iterative analysis are outlined and common limitations of application explained. The capabilities of MSC/NASTRAN, ANSYS and ABAQUS are investigated using two sample problems which include buckling, large deformations, plasticity and contact nonlinearities. (Author/TRRL)
