Abstract: A synthesis of current practice is being prepared on the topic of household travel surveys. Surveys performed by or for states, metropolitan planning organizations, and other agencies within the past 5 to 7 years are the primary focus of the synthesis, which seeks to summarize experience with the surveys, compare and contrast the methods used, costs and time required, and results obtained. The synthesis also examines current trends in the design and conduct of household travel surveys and projects likely changes over the next few years. This paragraph appears in a compendium of conference papers.
