Abstract: The value of the computer as a highway design tool is greatly enhanced when a plotter is added to the computer system and it becomes possible to produce plotted as well as printed output. Examples of computer generated plots are presented and the supporting computer programs considered. The following highway components are treated: (1)Detailed geometry; (2)property plat; (3)cross sections; (4)profiles; (5)contours; (6)perspectives; and (7)soil tests. Each program considered has been used in highway design and has been implemented on an IBM 1130 computer with an on-line drum plotter.
