Title: ROUTE SELECTION IS CRITICAL FACTOR IN DESIGN OF RAPID TRANSIT SYSTEMS
Abstract: This paper examines and compares the Washington METRO System and the BART System with respect to route selection, station location, and service to the metropolitan area. The Washington METRO, less restricted by geographical and political constraints, is a more flexible system and offers a more flexible service. BART is a commuter rail system that complements the local transit systems, while METRO will become the backbone of an integrated regional transit system.
