Title: CALCULATIONS FOR SHEET PILED OR CAST IN SITU DIAPHRAGM WALLS-DETERMINATION OF EQUILIBRIIM ASSUMING THE GROUND TO BE IN AN IRREVERSIBLE ELASTO-PLASTIC STATE
Abstract: Design of diaphragm walls for the Lyon metro inspired the calculation method now being generalized to form computer programs which provide accurate simulation of ground wall interaction, and allow choice of perloading and prestressing, in this article, an exemplary analysis of a real case demonstrates how the calculation program solves by equations of equilibrium the behavior of the wall, anchors or struts, and the ground. Problems of hysteresis, influence of active and passive pressures, and wall characteristics are simulated and resolved step by step. The considerable effect of cohesion on moments and struts in increasing or reducing stresses and loads is determined, and acceptable tolerances in the lesser effect of the Pseudo-elastic reaction modulus confirmed. The example of application concludes with an explanatory diagram and table showing the results of calculations. /TRRL/
