Title: THE ASSUMPTION OF REALISTIC E-MODULI AS PARAMETERS FOR THE ELASTIC DEFORMATION OF FLEXIBLE PAVEMENT MATERIALS IN THEORETICAL STRESS ANALYSIS
Abstract: THE PAPER ATTEMPTS TO DERIVE MORE REALISTIC MODULI OF ELASTICITY (E-MODULI) AS THE MOST IMPORTANT STARTING POINT FOR ELASTIC STRESS ANALYSES BASED ON SYSTEMATIC INVESTIGATION OF THE SERVICE BEHAVIOUR OF FLEXIBLE ROAD PAVEMENTS. IN THE FIRST INSTANCE THE MEASURED E (INDEX V2) VALUES FOR THE VARIOUS LAYERS OBTAINED FROM THE PLATE LOAD TEST WERE CONVERTED INTO LAYERWISE CONSTANT E-MODULI. BECAUSE OF THE AVAILABILITY OF THE BASIC DATA FROM MEASUREMENTS ON ALL THE USUAL TYPES OF PAVEMENT AT ALL STAGES OF SERVICE LIFE FROM FIRST INSTALLATION TO THE OCCURRENCE OF THE FIRST DAMAGE, IT WAS POSSIBLE TO DERIVE VALUES FOR THE E-MODULI WHICH COULD BE DIFFERENTIATED ACCORDING TO TIME OR LOCATION DEPENDING ON THE MATERIAL PROPERTIES, CONSTRUCTIONAL CIRCUMSTANCES AND ENVIRONMENTAL AND LOADING CONDITIONS. THIS PROVIDES A COMPREHENSIVE COMPILATION OF E-MODULI FOR COMPARATIVE STRESS ANALYSES.
