Title: The Transformation of German Philosophy in the Context of Scientific Research in the Nineteenth Century
Abstract: The history of philosophy of the nineteenth century has not yet been written. Indeed, one cannot help thinking that its scholarship is rather piecemeal, in comparison with portrayals of the eighteenth century or even antiquity. What is characteristic for the philosophy of the nineteenth century? What distinguishes it from that of the preceding and that of the coming century? What connects it with them? What are the defining objects and problems, if we want to portray the history of philosophy or the history of such disciplines as biology, chemistry, mathematics, or philology? The question of periodization then becomes difficult.
