Title: THE SUPREME COURT AND THE ANTITRUST LAWS 1953-1967
Abstract: Almost 14 years have passed since Mr. Chief Justice Warren took his seat in 1953. During these years, the Supreme Court of the United States has brought about an extraordinary expansion, I had almost said explosion, of the law in many fields. Highly active in the fields of criminal procedure, political equality, and racial discrimination, the Court has become known in the public prints as the Warren Court. One may quarrel with this designation. The Chief Justice may not be responsible for all that the Court has done. It may be, indeed, that if one man's name is to be chosen to describe this period, it should instead be that of the senior Associate Justice, Mr. Justice Black. In any case, the Court's impact on law and life has perhaps been greater during this period than at any time since the tenure of that Jeffersonian devil, Chief Justice John Marshall.
