Title: Highly selective and highly efficient catalytic conversion of methane into ethylene by oxidative coupling
Abstract: The paper presents results of direct catalytic conversion of methane into ethylene in the oxidative coupling reaction carried out in a reaction-separation system with gas recycle in which methane and oxygen were continuously supplied. The molecular sieve 5A modified with silver ions was used for selective adsorptive removal of ethylene from the post-reaction gases. The highest obtained value of the total conversion of methane was 96%, the conversion of methane to C2+ hydrocarbons was 75% and that of ethylene was 66%. The selectivity of C2+ hydrocarbons and ethylene formation was 78% and 68%, respectively. Of the total amount of C2+ hydrocarbons produced there were 91–93 mol% of ethylene and the content of ethylene among C2 hydrocarbons was over 97%.
