Abstract: Environmental hormone disruptors, also known as endocrine disruptors, comprise chemicals that are thought to disrupt normal endocrine function at very low exposure levels. As a class of compounds, dietary phytoestrogens represent the most significant source of exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals for humans. Although many chemicals have been implicated as causing endocrine disruption, very few chemicals have been clearly established as causing endocrine disruption in humans, primarily due to insufficient data. United States Environmental Protection Agency's Endocrine Disruptor Screening Program aims to fill in some of the gaps regarding whether chemicals may cause endocrine disruption.
