Abstract:This dissertation discusses the formation of clandestine subdivisions based on the analysis of the object of study, Vila Nova Esperança, located on the outskirts of the North Zone of São Paulo, seekin...This dissertation discusses the formation of clandestine subdivisions based on the analysis of the object of study, Vila Nova Esperança, located on the outskirts of the North Zone of São Paulo, seeking to answer how this type of formation occurred in the locality and indicate the complexity that is linked to it, considering the social and physical aspects of the place.Furthermore, it highlights the perception of residents regarding the process of formation and constitution of the subdivision and how the sum of irregularities prevent the establishment of an official address, limiting and restricting current daily actions, such as online shopping.To this end, a bibliographical review, field work, a view of the process at the São Paulo Housing Department and interviews with residents and community leaders were carried out.In view of the surveys, it was identified that illegal subdivisions are a practice that has stood the passage of time, revealing the insufficiency of public policies aimed at popular housing; that the association that represented the residents of the object of study acted in a way that was more similar to a real estate agency than a popular organization that fights for the right to decent housing; that there are differences within the subdivision itself, considering that some of the houses have access to infrastructure while others do not; that residents maintain confidence that because they have paid for the land, land regularization will happen and, finally, that there are variations in the sense of belonging to the place and the lack of an official address has an important impact on this.Read More
