Signal-to-noise ratio is one of the most important parameters in MRI because its increase can be exploited to improve spatial or temporal resolution. For fixed temporal and spatial resolutions, it provides better sensitivity, which is particularly beneficial for quantitative imaging. Susceptibility weighting imaging and quantitative susceptibility mapping methods also greatly benefit from higher magnetic fields. The domains of metabolic imaging and magnetic resonance spectroscopy benefit from increased magnetic fields as well. A major technical and physical constraint in ultra-high field MRI is the need for an RF coil adapted to the organ to be scanned. Ultra-high field imaging systems have enabled a significant step forward in ability to visualize and study the body organs and their impaired functioning. The chapter discusses the perspectives which are offered by parallel transmission imaging. References Abosch , A. , Yacoub , E. , Ugurbil , K. , Harel , N. ( 2010 ).
