Title: POLITICAL DIMENSIONS OF ISLAMIC RESURGENCE AND GLOBAL DEMOCRATIZATION: NEED FOR CIVILIZATIONAL CO-EXISTENCE
Abstract: There is no doubt that the final decades of the twentieth century have witnessed two important developments - Islamic resurgence and democratization. It is also true that Islamic resurgence and democratization complement each other in some countries. The reason is quite obvious. The authoritarian political regimes of the Muslim world are mostly secular in their approach to politics and modernization. Hence, Islamic movements which form the backbone of Islamic resurgence emerge as the leading movements of opposition which assure not only popular participation of people in politics but also affirm their identification with Islam.
