Abstract: La figure de Patrice Lumumba a fait l’objet d’un débat historique intense, mais aussi de nombreuses créations culturelles et artistiques à travers le monde. Cet article examine l’essor soudain de la commémoration de Lumumba et de la réponse artistique dans la Chine communiste au milieu des années 1960. Divers artistes et groupes d’artistes ont produit des compositions musicales, des chansons, des opéras, des films, des spectacles de théâtre, des comédies musicales, des danses, des romans-photos, des poèmes et des bandes dessinées (BD). Les spectacles ont traversé le pays jusqu’aux grandes métropoles et ont été soutenus par des documents imprimés en anglais et en français destinés à un accès international. Cette réponse culturelle s’est arrêtée à la fin de l’année 1966, coïncidant avec le début de la « Révolution culturelle » et un changement dans la politique internationale de la Chine à l’égard de l’Afrique. Celle-ci visait une approche plus pragmatique de ses relations avec les divers pays africains récemment devenues indépendantes.
