Abstract: Esta obra la conforman diez trabajos que ponen de relieve diversas cuestiones relacionadas con la historia de los cristianos en Egipto, en especial, con la historia de la comunidad copta.El primer trabajo, de Peter Gemeinhardt, «Athanasius von Alexandrien: Bishof, Theologe, Kirchenpolitiker»,, es un estudio biográfico de Atanasio de Alejandría (296-373) en el que el autor describe elementos no sólo de la vida de este obispo, sino también de su papel como teólogo y político, este último aspecto, se debe a su cargo en la Iglesia copta ortodoxa, lo que le permitió intervenir en la vida política y social de su comunidad.El trabajo de Siegfried Richter, «Vom mönchischen Leben.Entwicklungslinien des Mönchtums in Ägypten», (pp.25-40), describe la vida monástica en Egipto.Richter utiliza la obra de Atanasio de Alejandría sobre la vida de San Antonio para introducir este tema.El autor describe asimismo, algunos de los elementos más destacables de la vida cotidiana de un monje en Alejandría, como las tareas dentro del monasterio, las cuestiones sobre la comida y bebida en el monasterio, y las relaciones sociales de estos religiosos, entre otras cuestiones de interés.Heike Behlmer presenta un estudio titulado «Heilige Frauen im ägyptischen Christentum», (pp.41-54) sobre el papel de la mujer en la comunidad cristiana de Egipto.Introduce su trabajo a través de las referencias bíblicas a mujeres, como Sara, entre otras, y lo complementa analizando diferentes pasajes de la literatura hagiográfica en los que los martirios tienen a una mujer como protagonista.Con ello, Behlmer logra describir la percepción histórica y actual de las mujeres consideradas
