Abstract: This chapter provides an overview of the concepts discussed in part 3 of this book. The part focuses on chemical reaction engineering. It details few typical chemical reactors. The part then discusses the order of a reaction. It also details the rate of chemical reactions as a function of temperature. The part examines a plant modification: from batchwise to continuous manufacture. It then focuses on intrinsic continuous process safeguarding. The part also focuses on reactor choice and scale-up. It details few case studies in chemical reaction engineering. The rate of a chemical reaction is a function of: the temperature, the concentration, and the presence of catalysts. Two principle techniques exist for process safety in the chemical industry; these methods are based on the maintenance of either reaction conditions or chemical/physical stability in order to provide a safe working environment.
