Title: The SCALES slenslit: a unique exoplanet spectrograph
Abstract: SCALES is a 2 -5 micron, high-contrast, lenslet-based, integral field spectrograph (IFS) designed to characterize exoplanets and their atmospheres. In this proceeding, we present the updated design and current status of the SCALES slenslit, a novel take on an image slicer. The slenslit optics, which are being fabricated by Durham University’s Precision Optics group, dissect and rearrange a subset of lenslet micro-pupils into a pseudo-slit. The pseudo-slit is then dispersed with much higher spectral resolution than other lenslet-based IFS instruments. The slenslit technology opens new vistas for the characterization of exoplanet formation environments and atmospheres by improving the spectral resolution while maintaining the diffraction-limited imaging.
