Title: De Valera à Valera. Le « Milan inconnu » d’Elfo
Abstract: Entre 1878 et 1879, l’écrivain scapigliato Paolo Valera publie un reportage intitulé Milano sconosciuta, dans lequel il décrit sans fard et dans la droite ligne du genre des mystères urbains le côté sombre de la « capitale morale » de l’Italie. Près de cent ans plus tard, le dessinateur italien Elfo (Giancarlo Ascari) reprend le nom de Valera pour en faire un détective du quartier Ticinese aux prises avec des histoires bizarres et mystérieuses inspirées de la science-fiction et des bandes dessinées américaines underground. À partir de cette correspondance, l’article analyse la série d’Elfo consacrée à Paolo Valera en l’interprétant comme une réécriture moderne du genre des mystères, sur la base de correspondances thématiques telles que le cadre urbain, la connotation politique, l’influence de l’actualité sociale, les faits divers, et sur la base aussi de correspondances structurelles comme les modalités de circulation éditoriale des œuvres.
