Title: Osiemnastowieczne zbiory muzyczne Archiwum Klasztoru Mogilskiego - kontekst historyczny
Abstract: Klasztory cysterskie były obecne w Polsce już od XII wieku i odegrały ważną rolę w rozwoju kultury duchowej i materialnej kraju, w tym kultury muzycznej. Było to widoczne już w średniowieczu, kiedy to w pismach polskich klasztorów cysterskich odnaleziono księgi liturgiczne zawierające różne formy śpiewu chorałowego. Przypuszcza się, że mnisi odegrali ważną rolę w rozwoju polifonii i muzyki organowej. W okresie baroku nastąpił prawdziwy rozkwit życia muzycznego w klasztorach cysterskich, gdyż większość z nich funkcjonowała jako zespoły wokalno-instrumentalne, zgodnie z duchem epoki. Niektóre klasztory, jak te w Oliwie i Pelplinie, były w tym czasie znakomitymi ośrodkami sztuki muzycznej. Zespół ten powstał prawdopodobnie pod koniec XVI wieku i istniał do początku XIX wieku. Zachowane rękopisy muzyczne pochodzą głównie z drugiej połowy XVIII wieku i świadczą o wysokim poziomie artystycznym mogilskiej kaplicy i jej dzieł muzycznych, które uświetniały sprawowane w niej uroczyste liturgie. Te zabytki muzyczne pokazują również, że oprócz wykonywania muzyki sakralnej, ówczesny zespół klasztorny włączał do swojego repertuaru również utwory świeckie.
