Abstract: Le professeur Ferruccio Bertini s'est éteint le 13 avril 2012, à l'âge de soixante et onze ans.Avec lui disparaît l'un des plus grands spécialistes de littérature latine médiévale ayant illustré l'école italienne dans les dernières décennies.Né en 1941, il avait commencé son parcours de professeur de lettres dans l'enseignement secondaire et en avait toujours conservé un grand intérêt pour les problèmes posés par la didactique des langues anciennes.Mais c'est au sein de l'université qu'il fit l'essentiel de sa carrière, à Sassari tout d'abord, puis à Gênes, où il rejoignit son maître Francesco Della Corte et où il occupa pendant vingt-cinq ans la chaire de littérature latine médiévale, avant d'y devenir professeur ordinaire de littérature latine.Il y assuma également la charge de président de la faculté des Lettres, de 1990 à 1996, puis, à partir de 1998, la direction du département d'archéologie et de philologie classique.Sa vaste bibliographie s'organise principalement autour de trois genres littéraires, la comédie, la fable et la lexicographie, qu'il s'est attaché à étudier de manière diachronique, depuis les origines anciennes jusqu'aux prolongements médiévaux et humanistes.Ses premières recherches portèrent sur la comédie latine archaïque, avec un travail de pure philologie, entrepris sous la direction de Francesco Della Corte et consacré à l'édition critique et au commentaire lemmatique de l'Asinaria de Plaute.Ce travail, aussi fin que minutieux, fut publié en 1968 1 .Malgré ses nombreux autres centres d'intérêt, F. Bertini ne devait jamais se séparer de Plaute : deux ans plus tard, il publiait une édition de la Mostellaria, précédée d'un essai de son maître Della Corte 2 ; plus récemment, il fit encore paraître une traduction du Miles gloriosus 3 .Toujours dans le domaine de la comédie archaïque, il a aussi donné, en collaboration avec le célèbre dramaturge Vico Faggi, une traduction italienne très remarquée de l'ensemble des comédies de Térence 4 .Très tôt, il s'intéressa aussi aux prolongements médiévaux de la comédie antique, avec deux essais consacrés, le premier à Vital de Blois 5 et le second à Roswitha 6 , dont il devait donner, vingt ans plus tard, une édition traduite et commentée de l'ensemble de l'oeuvre dramatique 7 .Ses nombreux articles consacrés à la comédie latine ont été commodément réunis dans un recueil où les études consacrées au corpus plautinien voisinent agréablement avec des enquêtes touchant sa fortune médiévale et humaniste 8 .Mais c'est peut-être son dernier essai sur la comédie qui montre le mieux la vaste connaissance que pouvait avoir F. Bertini d'un genre littéraire qu'il aura fréquenté pendant quarante-cinq ans : Sosia e il doppio nel teatro moderno 9 s'intéresse à la réception de l'Amphitryon de Plaute, depuis le Geta de Vital de Blois jusqu'au théâtre le plus contemporain -la tragicomédie Amphitryon (1996) de notre regretté collègue André Arcellaschi est mentionnée en bonne place -en passant par Rotrou, Molière, Kleist et Giraudoux.
