Title: La divisió provincial del Regne de València de 1833: antecedents, criteris i modificacions posteriors.
Abstract: La división provincial de 1833 subdividió el Reino de Valencia en tres provincias, aunque este conservó los límites territoriales del Antiguo Régimen. Ello se explica porque el proyecto de división provincial se realizó por el Ministerio de Gracia y Justicia dirigido por Francisco T. Calomarde, ministro del penúltimo Gobierno absolutista de Fernando VII, entre 1825 y 1832. Fue un proyecto reformista con la finalidad de mejorar la administración de justicia, por lo que se partió de las divisiones territoriales de las Cancillerías y Audiencias, pero dividiendo su territorio en provincias y partidos judiciales. Después de la muerte del monarca, en noviembre de 1833, el ministro de Fomento, Javier de Burgos, se limitó a aprobar el proyecto. Este contrasta con los primeros proyectos liberales y los que se propusieron posteriormente, los cuales se debatían entre el “provincialismo” de los reformistas y moderados y el uniformismo de los políticos radicales, que pretendían borrar toda la memoria de los reinos y territorios del Antiguo Régimen y consolidar una nueva “nación”. La división provincial de 1833, que continúa vigente, al respetar los límites territoriales antiguos, ha permitido la continuidad de la conciencia colectiva de los territorios históricos y explica la consolidación del actual estado autonómico.
